The coolest thing happened in our favorite swimming hole last night! My hubby and I had popped down for a quick date-night dip (it is 3 km’s away), and some patients of ours had just arrived before us. They waved us over quick
to look at the three kingfish trapped inside.
The swimming hole is tidal. The deepest part is perhaps two meters over our head and the fresh stream-water flows below the trapped sea-water. Yes, I am talking about the hole in the
story, with the over-hanging tree that Judd leans out on (see sample images on website).
My husband was already a Kingfish legend before ... and now ...? I do not know what the next step is! He has targeted them for two years for
their elusiveness and massive tasty flesh. So to have three swim up the stream and become trapped in the low tide was just unheard-of phenomenal excitement!
My hubby raced home to grab the net so we could easily herd them to the
shore. I had to be the one in the water, behind and below the net, making all the thrashing sounds so none escaped. Thinking they were little rats (not legal size) we were just having fun, until the first one made it to the shore and was gaffed. It was 18kg!!!
A very decent Kingfish by all standards! Our story even made it to the local paper! LOCAL MAN CATCHES WIFE KINGFISH ON DATE-NIGHT SWIM IN LOCAL SWIMMING HOLE. (That's what it should have read! )
So anyway, I am reminded that sometimes life will surprise you with opportunities that swim your way, right up into your comfort zone where you never
considered the option of their presence before. The second lesson is that sometimes where the fresh water of the Holy Spirit meets the salty dangerous-to-drink sea when life’s tides bring it close, it is out of these tides of worldliness right at our
door that come whopper fish just begging to be caught!
Perhaps not clever… but true!
