I apologize in advance if this is not worded well. I may be writing under too emotive a state...
When someone is born blind, their
other senses become more highly developed.
A blind person may function well with these ultra-tuned abilities. One person might be extra sensitive to people’s emotions, or another might perhaps speak with unnatural skill. They will still be blind,
though. We see examples of these in society all the time.
A blind person may educate oneself about vision beyond that of an average sighted person. However, their description will always lack that crucial portrayal and application to life, unless the
blind has experienced sight before.
Today, I heard a sermon where a pastor stated that a spiritual experience was easy to have when the music is loud and good, and that this is the same high we receive from attending a rock concert as well.
I was blind, that is how I would explain it too.
More truth, I think.
There is a high to be enjoyed in any situation that moves our emotions to long for, worship and praise a talent. What cannot be confused is that God is the creator
of ALL talent. We can reach that pleasurable state in appreciating any gift on this earth, and we will still be praising God if we know Him.
We can enjoy the amazing abilities that life showcases, without disassociating it from its origin,
even when God is not present or intended there.
For example, Michael Jackson’s talent was God-given (as ALL are). Appreciate it, yes, but we do not have to like the man or what he stood for.
There is a difference.
Today, the preacher
also declared us as the literal body of Christ. He said we should look at our church-going neighbors and say hello to Jesus with us today, the presence of God.
If we are literally the body of Christ,
and we are to eat of His flesh, then I feel like having a piece of the pastor I heard! Where does the analogy stop?
When God’s spirit within you screams no, listen to it. All the intellectualizing of Christ’s life on this earth will never
replace His over-riding wisdom, which opens the eyes to a life-long experience of the greatest high ever. This high is a feeling and awareness of His presence in every moment. And if you did not feel it when your memory asked you, it would take only a minute
to bring it to the fore again.
This high will superceed any other that mere talent could bring on. It comes from 'sight' of God.
There are two wisdoms: one has the illusion of life but its blindness leads to death, while the other is death to
self - in order to have incomparable full-sighted life!
If we are to be at all blind, close your eyes to the enticements that pull us from that incredible awareness. And if you are not currently experiencing that flush of WOW GOD, get
down on your face before Him and beg Him to open your eyes. It will be His pleasure! He has more power than your doubts!
As someone who has lived in that sight for only four years now, even after all my life as a lover of Jesus, (and knowing many other
beautiful Christians who know God’s presence too) I leave you with knowing that the Lord of All has the power to open the eyes of the blind, so all can SEE HIM!
His presence is so strong, even (and often especially) in
the low times, not just the good times. And it is His presence, not my un-present neighbor in the pew. My fellow Body of Christ members will yet not be God to me.
O praise Him!
