My coolest husband yesterday took our two middle daughters on a special trip to give me some time to recover from tonsillitis. Our older two are at Nan and Pop’s, and I knew I could cope with the two littlest no problem (it’s called DVD’s).
Anyway, this was a fishing trip where he dropped the girls off on different island beach fronts or coves, left them with a walkie talkie to communicate with him, and boated some distance away to fish.
With backpacks full of goodies including chocolate,
cards, books, packed lunches, drink bottles and a blanket each, they set off for adventuring. I could not believe their tales and the delight on their faces when they came home!
As the day wore on and the girls eventually grew tired, my hubby in the
middle of a good fishing spot, played eye spy with them from a distance until he hauled the last Snapper in. How cool is that?!
To top off their day, they saw a massive pod of large dolphins on the way home that frolicked around the boat for at least
half an hour. My 8 year old even touched one, that is how close they were and how many spiraling jumps they made into the air in playfulness!
They teased me many times by saying two dolphins winked at them, and one waved his fin. Then the exaggerations
…apparently one dolphin was wearing a suit and a bowler hat. On looking down into the water, another daughter said the dolphins were sitting at a restaurant enjoying a food fight.
Personally I think they had too much
sun, but the true gales of laughter from them were contagious and I love that they made such great memories!
We are on an adventure too. Set onto different shores we are left with all the goodies we need to live and explore, and moreover, we have direct
communication to the Skipper of the Boat.
It is important to remember that we will be leaving the beach one day to get onto that Boat to travel to shores bluer and more sparkly than even our Coromandel. The wonders He has in store for us will be beyond
even my children’s wildest imaginations! And the Skipper Himself will be the grandest of all wonders -
I wonder what it would be like to play I spy with Him while He brings in the last of His fish?
