Can you believe that I kneeled before the most enormous lioness today? On a much needed weekend break away, to recover from the last month of sickness and unexpected full time work, my husband and I decided an excursion into Paradise
Valley Animal Park would be fun.
I am telling you the truth; my knees were only 50cm from the great crouching paws of the mother of all cats!
In absolute, intentional ignorance of me, she gazed past my
body distracted by an unknown curiosity within the bush beyond. Whereas I, my little heart racing with disbelief that there I was in such close proximity, struggled to stretch my mind wide enough to grasp that these were real beasts of the earth in front of
me, fierce enough to kill.
Only a meshed wire fence gave me the confidence to be so bold.
Thinking of God, I realized that He has intentionally placed a barrier between Him and us. This fence is something
we often fool ourselves with, thinking God is contained within its parameters; He can be contained within our thinking, and His power and strength is fathomable, and as long as we want we can visit His cage.
Reality shows that the
fence is between us for OUR safety! Think of God's KINDNESS with Moses, how He pushed him into the cleft of a rock as He passed by. Moses would have died otherwise.
Imagine if the division was removed. Would we be comfortable to
kneel before the great power that created existence itself? I would stay as far away from Him as I could in terror. But Jesus became our confidence. He is the layer of protection that lets us walk boldly before God to
admire and soak in the presence of the hardest reality for us to comprehend. Our position before God’s feet is holy ground because of His grandeur. We could not ever be capable of any close position to view Him from if it were not for Jesus intervention
and protecting introduction.
If I could sit before lions and find it hard to take in as REAL, no wonder we struggle with our thoughts and feelings of reality even when we are right there within His presence, close enough to see His
eyes. I become tongued tied; I laugh at times with this incredible bubbling excitement inside at the offer He wants us to take; I cry in overwhelmed emotions as the depths and complexities of the grandest story ever told begin to sink in; I sing privately
in unrestrained joy before the BIG power that created and rules our existence.
These are standout moments like visiting a lions encloser.
Today's lioness was acting as though she was completely unaware
of my presence. Instead, the things that tickled her ears were movements beyond my sight. What tickles God’s ears?
I could bask in His presence, but I think His attention is on the things His heart is crying for. He wants
freedom for those enslaved. He wants justice for the oppressed. He cares for the poor. His heart burns for the untold. If we want the grand old lion to notice us then we need to be within His line of sight. The true lion of sight.
