2 Kings 9:1-13 Jehu anointed King of Israel
9 The prophet Elisha summoned a man from the company of the prophets and said to him, “Tuck your cloak
into your belt, (make sure your righteousness is bound by truth!) take this flask of olive oil with you (the Holy Spirit!) and go to Ramoth Gilead. 2 When you get there, look for Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi.
Go to him, get him away from his companions (so he had no other influence) and take him into an inner room (a place of import). 3 Then take the flask and pour the oil on his head (Jehu receives the Holy Spirit) and
declare, ‘This is what the Lord says: I anoint you king over Israel.’ Then open the door and run; don’t delay!” (Why run? See below…)
4 So the young prophet went to Ramoth Gilead. 5 When
he arrived, he found the army officers sitting together. “I have a message for you, commander,” he said. (He was already addressing the right person)
“For which of us?” asked Jehu. (Clarification is essential when
receiving from God)
“For you, commander,” he replied. (Repeats himself as a second confirmation)
6 Jehu got up and went into the house (the mind or the heart where important things are addressed or
received). Then the prophet poured the oil on Jehu’s head and declared, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anoint you king over the Lord’s people Israel (he is to be master over the body of people God has given
him). 7 You are to destroy the house of Ahab your master, (Jehu will no longer be mastered by anyone but God) and I will avenge the blood of my servants the prophets and the blood of all the Lord’s servants shed by Jezebel.
8 The whole house of Ahab will perish. I will cut off from Ahab every last male in Israel—slave or free. (with all males gone the line is ended at that generation)[a]
9 I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah. 10 As for Jezebel, dogs will devour her on the plot of ground at Jezreel, and no one will bury her (the
broken chains of our body are not to be mourned).’” Then he opened the door and ran. (Why run?...)
11 When Jehu went out to his fellow officers, one of them asked him, “Is everything all right? Why did
this maniac come to you?” (here these men would have immediately seen the fresh oil on the head of Jehu)
“You know the man and the sort of things he says,” Jehu replied. (unsure as yet and needing confirmation)
12 “That’s not true!” they said. “Tell us.” (an open door for confirmation to come through)
Jehu said, “Here is what he told me: ‘This is what the Lord says: I anoint you king over
Israel.’” (just repeating the facts, so he is open still to this not being of God)
13 They quickly took their cloaks and spread them under him on the bare steps. Then they blew the trumpet and shouted, “Jehu
is king!” (the men recognizing the fresh Holy Spirit anointing on his life the moment he walked out that door, meant they could confirm without reserve that God had spoken and they would obey!)
All of this was only possible
by a young man who had determined to tighten the belt of truth around his robes of righteousness, carrying the Holy Spirit within his own hands. If the prophet had delayed? Jehu would have talked more and question him, taking the strength out of what
was done. The oil would have seeped further into his hair and might not have been so obvious to his friends.
With a delay... the friends would not have recognized the dripping oil and acted with determined reverence to the mark of God. there
would have been doubts and conjectures. Divisions may have formed. A king may not have reigned. A small obedience...
I don’t know… I thought it was amazing. I am stunned again at what can be done if God calls and we answer in truth, wearing
the righteousness of God and carrying His Spirit within. Kings can be set up! Chains can be broken! Strongholds of the past can be cut off, NEVER TO BE MASTERS OF US AGAIN!!!!!
Praises to Him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
